Alaa ELdin Daher
The name of the Mashrabiya goes back to where pottery pots are placed to cool water, consists of small pieces of wood that are collected to make a latticework that allow the entry of air and light and allow those inside to see from outside.
The lattice work made of timber, covers the prominent window overlooking the street or separates two parts inside the house and also in cravanserai and palaces.
It also distributes and renews the air, where the narrow holes from the bottom allows cold air to enter, and from the top with wide openings for the exit of hot air, thus the air circulates inside the house and is constantly renewed.
In addition to its social and cultural background, it will hide those inside the house and protects their privacy
